As we get closer and closer to embracing adulthood, the more we want to indulge in coffees, brunches, and things that makes us feel like we are capable of taking care of ourselves. And nothing does that better than a plethora of household plants that are thriving under our care because yes, houseplants are valid commitments.
Unfortunately, the savvy succulents and trendy terrariums that are all over social media tend to cost over $20 per plant. Since double-digit-anything is already out of pocket, Trial and Error decided to embark on a "ratchet (but economically efficient) homage to a bougie decoration classic".
After a quick scroll on Pinterest, I found a site that gave an easy and informative how-to on creating terrariums by following the layers shown on the left side image.
From there, I tried to find all the different material needed. I also made a few modifications on the way, leading to the final process shown below.
RESULTS
Overall, it was a pretty easy project, even for a beginner like me. Money-wise, it only costs approx. $25 CAD for all three plants, supplies, and decorations. Both terrariums took around 10 minutes to make once all the supplies were gathered and the plants continued to thrive in their containers.
Unfortunately, Tara the Larger Terrarium (the one actually held the real plants) was later stolen this week after being left outside to get sunlight - which could be seen as an underhanded compliment (I hope).
OVERALL VERDICT
If you are looking to get into gardening, this project is great first glimpse. However, it was quite a messy project and does require to get your hands a little bit dirty. Luckily, it does reward you with a beautiful home decor piece that should last you for many years to come.
