Want an AMUSING Activity To Do At Home? Try These FUN-nel Cakes!

Updated: Jul 29, 2020

COVID-19 may have closed down Canada's Wonderland, Six Flags, CNE, and Disney World, but there's nothing stopping us from bringing a taste of the fairgrounds home 🎡! Funnel cakes are a fan-favourite amusement park staple and I just COULDN'T go the summer without having one.

The majority of the ingredients required to make a funnel cake are staples in everyone's pantry! For this recipe, I didn't have to go out and purchase a single thing. Granted, I'm missing the confectioners' sugar, chocolate syrup and whipped cream, but I substituted those with vanilla ice cream and fruits instead.

This could be us right now, but Trial And Error won't let that get us down...

Instead of riding roller coasters, we'll 100% settle for the thrill of making funnel cakes at home. Our stomach definitely won't be queasy afterwards! 🎢

Here are the instructions - feel free to change up the amounts to make more or less cakes:

RESULTS:

More of a visual learner? Don't worry, T&E has got your back too! Here's a quick video outlining the process:

If I close my eyes, I could almost hear the games attendants doing their pitches and feel the liveliness of the fairgrounds.

The homemade funnel cakes turned out quite well, and were SCRUMPTIOUS! For extra flavour, add some more ground cinnamon or even ground nutmeg! Powdered sugar would also help give that additional aesthetic appeal. I would highly recommend purchasing a squeeze bottle or a funnel for this Cooking DIY as the makeshift plastic bag funnel I used was quite flimsy and difficult to handle.

THE VERDICT:

Thank you to all those who voted for this delicious snack on our Instagram, I had an ABSOLUTE BLAST making and devouring them! It was not the easiest dish, however, the results were totally worth it! I'd highly recommend trying this out 😊

Just recreate the recipe above and sift on some confectioners sugar at the end - it will look good on the 'gram and taste even better in real life. Why have FOMO for amusement parks this summer when you can bring a piece of the fairgrounds to your home? Enjoy!
